After spending over $5 Million the avenue is dirty and the cheap BID signs are small and barely visible. Money well spent? Do we want to follow their example? A sad graveyard of it’s former self. Walking down 5th ave today I was taken aback by its decay and 3rd world feel. Myself and a friend commented simultaneously how dirty and unsafe we felt. $560,000 Budget! $45,000/month – and they could not tell us how they arrived at that number and who was getting it! $240,000 Administration COSTS – HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 120K for marketing? 18 and counting! The tombstones of the ave seem to be increasing. These are from 75 to 81st – Hopefully not many more towards 100st. Property taxes, death of retail, high rents & operating expenses all contribute to new small business not opening or closing shop. Does anyone have any other ideas why? Let us know. Out of touch with the community
Time for a new perspective We certainly wanted Marty Golden to win – I voted for him. We are not debating an election. We are showing the “old guard” who’s out of touch with the communities wants and needs. Yet they are the advocates of a BID with their insistence that it will be “good for the community and business”. They were very wrong about an election candidate and went “out on a limb” with the same gusto they have for a BID.
