This weekend, i was speaking to an individual that owns many properties on 5th ave – 1st they did not realize they paid for a BID and began reviewing their tax statements to find out they pay in excess of $7500 a year! Needless to say they were shocked they never noticed or were “told” about this – they want it to end! momentum is building – watch out 5th ave BID – once people realize the costs… but i digress
This person discussed with me a tenant they have, a large name corp, told them to REDUCE the rents because 5th ave has declined in traffic and does not have the appeal it once had. Basically 5th ave has declined! This owner has been on the ave for MANY years and we walked some blocks and they agreed and were pissed that they were paying so much for “nothing”
They did not want to be named and in fairness i can agree at this time since they were negotiating with the tenant and did not want to jeopardize since it it VERY hard to rent on 5th – despite what a BID promises – $6 million and counting.
2nd Vindication – large corps do not pay for a BID! They can leave at any time – can you move your business? NO! will you ALWAYS pay the BID TAX – YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do we the merchants and property owners of 3rd ave want to repeat our sister ave’s failures? NO!
Once the Self Serving MONSTER BID begins it can never be stopped!
